2021 Legacy Series Sauvignon Blanc

The 2021 vintage was marked by low yields, ensuring that the crop was harvested at optimal ripeness and in ideal condition. This vintage highlights the highest quality, setting the tone for the Cullen's commitment to excellence.
Wilyabrup saw a timely harvest, especially for the Sauvignon Blanc, which showed excellent physiological ripeness. A single block of old-vine Sauvignon Blanc from the Cullen Vineyard was hand-harvested on a Flower Day in early March. Afterward, the wine underwent two days of skin contact before being pressed and matured in 50% new oak for five months. The wine was bottled without fining or filtration, preserving its purity and expression.

Tasting Notes

The 2021 vintage was marked by low yields, ensuring that the crop was harvested at optimal ripeness and in ideal condition. Although bird pressure was high and unpredictable rainfall during the growing season and throughout harvest presented challenges, the artisanal nature of our wines prevailed.

Wines of excellent balance and fruit purity, a vintage similar to 2003 in style. Best varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon.

  • Cellar Enjoy now or for up to 15 years
  • Bouquet An abrasive yet captivating bouquet of white flowers, laced with lemongrass and zesty kaffir lime, underpinned by a backbone of sea salt and minerality.
  • Palate A clean introduction of citrus blossom and white flowers wraps the palate, followed by vibrant notes of mandarins and pink grapefruits. The transitions to a textural mid-palate with flavors of pink lady apples and Bosc pear, culminating in a crisp finish marked by a clean minerality. The creamy nettle lingers, showcasing the wine's multilayered complexity and the balance of its phenolics.
