The Chenin Blanc at Cullen’s comes from some of the oldest vines in the region, planted in 1976. They have always been dry farmed and now certified biodynamic and carbon neutral.
2024 was a very hot and dry harvest and it was not necessary to cut the canes and the concentrated fruit naturally dried out on the vine giving this unique expression of old vine Chenin Blanc dessert wine. It was low yielding and even more so due to the extraordinary harvest conditions. It was picked at the end of harvest in mid-February on a Fruit day on the Biodynamic calendar.
Capturing the beautiful natural acidity of Chenin, the wine was chilled to finish with 130 g/L of sugar. A delicious and fresh dessert wine that will gain further complexity with age.
