2011 Mangan Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc Semillon 1.5L Magnum

Like the Cullen Vineyard, the development of the fruit for this Mangan Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc Semillon benefited from the consistent and dry weather that prevailed in the lead up to vintage, resulting in the production of a very good wine. This wine has the classic minerality that characterizes this vineyard blend. While the wine was made in a similar manner as that of the Cullen Vineyard blend, it received less oak treatment which makes the wine more fruit driven in style.

Vintage Notes

The very dry and warm Spring (only 111mm of rain from September 2010 onwards) combined with the consistently hot Summer led to the fruit of all grape varieties ripening within a relatively short period of time, and thus to harvest extending only from 1 February to 9 March. This was the earliest finish to vintage on record. It was also a vintage of super moons! The vintage conditions in 2011 are resulting in the production of white wines that have great flavour and elegance and to red wines with marvelously concentrated fruit flavours.

Varieties: 58% Sauvignon Blanc and 42% Semillon
Harvest: 13 – 18 February 2011
Oak: 20% French oak, of which 28% was new for 3 months
Alcohol: 12%

Tasting Notes

Colour: Brilliant, pale straw with green tinges Cellar: Will be very enjoyable over the next 5 years, but has the potential to cellar for several more years after that Bouquet: Pungent, piercing and linear, combining intense cut grass slate and citric aromas Food: Crustacean and fish dishes, and mild Asian food Palate: Mouth filling, with an attractive blend of grassy, mineral, citrus and white peach flavours. The delicious middle palate flavours lead in to a long and particularly fine acid finish
