Cullen Restaurant gets a star from Rob Broadfield!
Rob Broadfield’s West Australian Good Food Guide has been released, and we are thrilled he has given Cullen Wines 15.5 points and 1 star.
The review…
The Cullen family stands tall in Margaret River as originators and innovators. The winery’s dedication to biodynamic and organic produce grown onsite was ahead of it’s time when first introduced seven years ago. Winemaker Vanya Cullen even has bees pollinating her chardonnay vines and has been rewarded with a stunning organic chardonnay blossom honey, which you can buy when it’s available. The produce informs the compact and delightful menu. The Cullen Vineyard platter changes regularly. On some occasions it’s vegetarian only, but with vegetables direct from the kitchen garden, it doesn’t get much better. Grilled local venison chorizo is also a good middle-of-the-table sharing dish. Twice-baked roasted pumpkin and goats cheese souffle has a soft, slightly rubbery texture which lets down the cracking walnut , rocket and apple salad that accompanies it. Lamb shoulder is gently cooked with a rosemary-infused jus and complemented by warrigal green, house-made dukkah and potatoes. Tiramisu is simply beautiful. Afternoon tea fans can enjoy scones with jam and cream. Cullen’s has evolved. It is classy. Its food is clean-flavoured, well executed and cooked with precision.
Cullen Wines are biodynamic and among the best wines in the region. All price points are catered for, but go large and order a bottle of the Kevin John (chardonnay) or Diana Madeline (cabernet), the vineyard’s top labels.
