2006 MARGARET RIVER WHITE

back

This
wine is essentially a replacement for the Ellen Bussell White wine and
is made entirely from fruit grown on Cullens own vineyards. As it is made
predominantly from the traditional Bordeaux blend of Sauvignon Blanc and
Semillon, it is bottled in a Bordeaux bottle. However, the wine does contain
a small amount of Chardonnay and this has added complexity and a touch
of richness to the middle palate, without changing the basic structure
of the wine.

Tasting notes   Reviews

The Sauvignon Blanc
component (50%) is slightly greater than that of the Semillon (40%),
while Chardonnay contributes just 10%. The fruit, all of which was
produced biodynamically, was picked before the sugar levels became
too high to help ensure that the wine exhibited appealing fresh
fruit characters. All of the wine was wild yeast fermented in stainless
steel tanks, which were maintained at low temperatures and thus
further facilitating the retention of the fresh fruit characters.

Colour: Excellent pale straw
Bouquet: Fresh and lively combination
of pineapple, lime and apples
Palate: Vibrant clean honey
dew melon fruit fills out the middle palate. Round, soft and
complete and finishes with good acidity
Cellaring: Made for drinking over the next 1 to 2 years
Food: Excellent as an aperitif or with shellfish,
chicken and fish
